Here are some pics we took of a very frosty Friday on Freeman’s Marsh last week 🥶
So cold, but so beautiful!
Does anyone else have any wintery photos of our lovely town they would like to share?

A Norway Maple is being felled tomorrow, Thursday 30th November, and traffic lights will be in place at the Threeways junction in the middle of Hungerford Common
Managing a countryside estate of over 400 acres poses numerous challenges, one being the balance between our beautiful trees and safety.
Sadly, one of our prominent and fine Norway Maples on Hungerford Common has succumbed to some sort of root stress that has resulted in exudations on the trunk, dieback in the central crown and now a significant weakness in the form of a crack appearing in the central fork between the main bole and heavy branches.
Having been monitored and checked annually, our expert arboriculturist of over 20 years has advised that the only option now is to remove the tree.
Felling a significant tree is always an emotive matter, and we only do so when absolutely necessary, this tree will be replaced with at least one other.
Thank you for your understanding.'

The beautiful Christmas tree outside the Town Hall is looking a bit bare at the moment - but not for much longer!
Tomorrow evening it will illuminate as Hungerford’s Christmas lights are switched on!
The High Street will be closed between 4.30pm and 5.30pm for this to take place.
It promises to be a wonderful evening full of festive cheer, featuring Hungerford Town Band, Hungerford Primary School Choir and Hungerford Community Theatre.
The entertainment starts at 4pm on the Town Hall steps.
The Town and Manor is delighted to support the town council with the lights switch on again this year 😊

We are very sad to hear of the passing of John Morgan.
John, who was employed when Bruce Mayhew was Constable, was a wonderful Hall Keeper for us - looking after the Town Hall complex for many years.
John will always be remembered for being a friendly face and always willing to lend a hand, especially when setting up for Hocktide.
Our thoughts are with his family at this very sad time.

Look at this magnificent beech tree, with its moss covered roots and a skirt of Autumn leaves, that we are lucky enough to call one of our own!
The question is...where is it?

Have you HERD?
The cows are starting to leave Hungerford Common for the winter.
Unfortunately, they have left a few (not so) little reminders that they were here 🤢
While cowpats aren’t the prettiest thing to look at, they do play an important role in attracting wildlife, as any dropped by the grazing herd swiftly become complex insect colonies.
For example, flies deposit live larvae, while others lay eggs.
There are a dozen or more muscid species (flies with soft oviducts) whose eggs thrive so long as they hit the cowpat while it's wet.
Just be careful where you tread, or you might end up with a not-so-pleasant souvenir on your shoe!
