Barr Barbara passed away peacefully on 3rd July 2026 at home surrounded by family.
Barbara was a long-serving Trustee to the Town & Manor and in 2007 became the first female Constable in the 500 year history of the charity; shattering long-standing gender barriers having been the first female Tuttiman and Ale Taster on her route to becoming Constable.
She played a very important role at the Town and Manor for many years in numerous roles, including as a stalwart supporter of Hocktide. Barbara organised the Tutti girls each year for Hocktide, firstly at school and after retiring by liaising with school on behalf of Town & Manor; Barbara did this for 23 years.
Barbara’s unwavering commitment and contribution to the Town and Manor and the wider Hungerford community was simply outstanding and she will be sorely missed. Our condolences go to Barabara's family at this very sad time.

My form tutor at school and one of maybe 2 who could control me. Also gave me ferreting permission on Hungerford Marsh and the common as a primary school boy. Sincere condolences to the family, friends etc. Mrs Barr was one special lady who has given me many memories from 40yrs of having the pleasure of knowing.
Mrs Barrs family should be extremely proud of the legacy and impact that she has left behind! Teaching lots of us to sew and being such a kind and caring teacher at John of Gaunt. Also, the employment opportunities she gave to so many young people in Hungerford. How amazing that such a gentle soul could change gender stereotypes in Hungerford. My sincere condolences go to Mrs Bar’s family, what an amazing person.
One of my old teachers and my first boss, when recruited into the ranks of Tutti Pole weekend and holiday staff! A lovely lady, who will leave a massive hole not just with her family, and at the Tutti Pole, but also the town as a whole. She did so much for Hungerford. Rest in Peace Barbara. A lot of people, including me, are going to miss you x
She was a legend ..she appreciated and respected hard graft ! Loved working at the tutti pole from the age of 14 .. if things were quiet Mrs Barr took me to clean her house which I was so proud of for her choosing me ! Mrs Barr looked away at my smoking at JOG so I & the girls could win another county trophy at Netball .. only reason I stayed at school ! Sending all my love to you all & your mum was a mum to soo many of us x rest in peace Mrs Barr xxxxxx
Sad news, RIP Barbara .condolences to her family.
This lady was a wonderful teacher. We were going on a school trip one year but I had forgotten my packed lunch. This lovely person stopped the coach in the high street, she went into her home and made me a packed lunch. That was the kind and generous lady she was. Whenever I saw her in the Tutti Pole or in the town, I reminded her of this kind act. One in a sea of very kind acts no doubt. She was just the best sort of person.
Thank you all for your lovely comments about Mum, very much appreciated 🙏 she really was one of a kind and she is greatly missed by us all 💔 but she achieved so much in life that we are incredibly proud of and know she is now at rest and no longer suffering 🙏

‼️ We are aware of the fire just off of the common‼️
The fire brigade are on the scene and are doing everything they can to extinguish the flames.
We are hopeful that this won’t spread to the common and know that the services will do everything in their power to ensure the safety of all.
We of course, hope that everyone remains safe and well.

What an amazing fire service we have. 🙏 We’ve just been back to check on the cattle and to see how everything was going and the fire appears to be extinguished and the cattle are happy.
I knew I could smell a bonfire...!
I wondered why I kept thinking of bonfires
I could see it from Chilton foliat. Is it a field fire? Where abouts?
Looks to be a fair size fire
I'll pray for you not to be engulfed by 🔥
I hope they get it under control soon.
🔥🔥 Hot Hot Hot 🔥🔥
The cows are feeling it today! Luckily they are super sensible and are staying in the shady areas. 🙏🐄
Please be like the cattle and stay cool. We love the heat but it can be a danger to some!
