We were deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Chris Boulton.
Chris gave so generously of his time, wisdom and experience, and over the years he offered The Town & Manor invaluable advice and guidance, especially when it came to The Kennet Valley Wetland Reserve Project.
His insight, encouragement and belief in the importance of community-led projects made a real difference to us, and to so many others across West Berkshire.
Chris’s passion for the charitable sector, his ability to bring people together, and his thoughtful, steady support will be remembered with great gratitude. He leaves behind a remarkable legacy of kindness, leadership and positive impact.
We were delighted to welcome Chris as our Guest of Honour and speaker at our Hocktide Luncheon in 2023. Here he gave such a wonderful speech.
Our heartfelt condolences go to his wife Jennifer, his sons Albert and Arthur, and all who knew and loved him. He will be very fondly remembered and greatly missed.

Even if the recent cold snap had us all reaching for extra layers, there’s no denying how incredible our beautiful open spaces have looked ❄️✨
Hungerford Common and Freeman’s Marsh have been absolutely stunning — crisp winter mornings, frosted grasses, wide open skies and that wonderful sense of calm they bring all year round. These cherished spaces are such an important part of Hungerford’s heritage and daily life, offering somewhere to walk, pause, reflect and reconnect with nature, whatever the season.
Cold fingers aside - moments like these remind us just how lucky we are to have such special landscapes right on our doorstep 🌿
