A look back at Hocktide 2025…
As we count down to this year’s celebrations, here are a few photos from last year’s Hocktide, when Julie Lloyd was serving her third Hocktide as Constable.
The Tithingmen were Conor O’Kane and Anthony Edginton, accompanied by Nigel Perrin as Orangeman.
Once again, we were delighted to have Tutti Boys alongside Tutti Girls, continuing this wonderful tradition with the younger generation. The party included:
• Ruairi
• Lacie
• Freya
• James
A lovely reminder of the people who help keep this special Hungerford tradition alive each year.

Another wonderful glimpse into Hungerford’s historic Hocktide tradition!
This fantastic footage dates from 1955, a little later than the previous film we shared, and shows just how long this special celebration has been part of life in our town.
Nearly 70 years on, the tradition continues.
📅 Hocktide 2026 takes place on Tuesday 14th April — a day full of history, ceremony and community spirit.
Are you ready to take part?

Did you know this footage shows Hocktide in Hungerford nearly 100 years ago?
Filmed in 1929, it captures the essence, ceremony and characters of one of England’s oldest surviving traditions – still celebrated in Hungerford every year after Easter. There is much less kissing now a days though 👀
Almost a century later, the tradition continues.
📅 Hocktide 2026 takes place next Tuesday.
History lives on in Hungerford.

Our group found that there was a lot less rubbish to pick up this year compared to last year, so that’s positive ☺️ good work everyone!
Great work everyone and very much appreciated but shouldn't have to. 👏👏

🐄 The cows are coming back to the common!
Our four-legged friends are due to return around 15th April — though as always, we often don’t get much notice until the day itself, so apologies in advance for any last-minute updates!
We’ll share more information closer to the time.
Keep an eye out! 👀🌿
🧹 In the meantime, we’re hosting a common clear-up this Sunday — come along and help us get it ready for our returning residents!
Meet in The Downgate car park at 10am!
Please do make sure to take all rubbish home with you going forward. Litter left on the common can be a real danger to the cows, so let’s keep it clean for them.
